Getting A Lot Of Things Done Without All The Modern Technology

I recently took a trip. Not a real vacation but as close as I am going to get for quite a while. It was a long trip so I had to stay in a motel. I have not stayed in any paid lodging for over 13 years. I tried to pay cash. But they also wanted a large cash deposit. So I put it on a credit card and paid cash when I checked out!
I stayed with an aunt the first couple of nights. The generation older than me. They had all the bells and whistles. All the electronic gadgets etc.
Then I stayed a couple of nights with a great aunt. two generations older then me. She is out in a rural area. She does not have a computer. Or even want one. No cell phone. One car is 45 years old and the other 25. Which both work and look well. The television gets 3 PBS channels only. The telephones are even still rotary dial. How can someone live like this? Well she does. And ultimately gets a lot more done than I do.
How do you do it? You go and see someone face to face. Not in fashion today but still possible. You go to the place you want and deal with people. This requires some social skills that most of us have lost. This is still an effective way of getting things done.
The US Mail. When is the last time you ordered something over the mail? Fill out an order blank. Post it. Wait for the recipient to get it. Then they mail you back. It is not that right now thing like the Internet. But does get things done. Anything that you order by Internet or mail comes in the mail anyway. Doesn't it? One way or another.
The telephone. My aunt uses a rotary telephone for all her business. The things are bullet proof. They will continue to work in all kinds of weather for a hundred years. Still in use for forty years with better sound quality than any cell or cordless phone. It can still dial toll free numbers and do a lot of functions.
Pen and paper. You can still write things. A letter, note , document etc. I keep a pen and note pad with me at all times. Sometimes you just have to write it down. If I am out and about or even at home, it is nice to just write it down to remember. Or even just remember in your mind. Not likely! So write it down.
Physical work. I know. I do it. Sometimes I do not like it. My aunt in her nineties  moves dirt. She showed me her new weed eater thing. Cooks her own food. Will drop the f bomb on you. Pretty cool. At the same time shows a very feminine look. Cannot imagine what she looked like in 1942. Pretty well I guess as she was successful in business. Still carrying on today.
The rest of us (including me as I am on a computer) are weak at best compared to the older generations. They just got things done. Things that meant something. Not just electronic communications. If there was something that needed moved they moved it. They did not look for an app on there phone to do it for them.
As far as I can see the most connected generation gets the least done. They cannot make a move without their phone in their hand. They do not want to do anything hard (as if anyone does), They do not want to be at work (as if anyone else does), just want to go home and sleep.

Expanding Recycling Programs To Save The World And Create Jobs

Everybody you talk to wants to save the world. Be nice. Be politically correct. Feed the starving. Recycle waste. Eat right. Exercise. Be healthy. Conserve energy. Drive politely. Dress nice. Just be the greatest person in the world.
Flash forward to the reality of the world. Human nature is taking the path of least resistance. Sorry but true, we all do it. How many times do we do something that is a little bit wrong and just think in our minds do it. It is not going to hurt anything. So OK. Everybody does it!
I feel that as a world we could do a little better job of recycling things. Make a waste product something that we could reuse. I know that there are a certain amount of products we are recycling now. But how much further can we take it? When waste is taken to a landfill how much can we save? I think that about 1 percent of plastic is recycled. People are looking for jobs. Give them a job in recycling. Get that plastic waste down to 50% or less. No let it go. Wrong.
Organic waste is high. About half of the produce we get is just thrown away. Why not make a huge compost pile of it? Takes too much effort. The people that are not working would not want to take on such a task. It is much better to stay at home and watch TV. I like that too. But unfortunately I have to work as well.
I do not in any means that these be slave like jobs. They can be part time and you can take them for extra money if you that the motivation. You just go and say you want to work for however many hours for what days. Make a little extra money. What's wrong with that?
Working in a grocery store I see that the organic waste is high. The meat waste is high. We do recycle clean cardboard. We recycle waste meat. The vegetables are just throw away.
As a nation every bit of plastic, metal, paper, cardboard, oil and a sundry amount of other things could be recycled. So let us take recycling to the next level. Make an open market on this job. It would not be a profession. But simply something that you could do when you want to. To pick up some extra cash. Or full time as there would have to be administrators and supervisors. This is another opportunity for us to rise up out of the ashes. Set the standard.
The other day I had some one that was from some other place. And they complained about the American System. I told them that the door swings both ways. And if you do not like it go back to your Perfect system that you left. We will not miss you.

Coal, Gas And Oil

We have got to a point where this nation can provide all the energy we need. As a nation we did not need any outside sources for energy. So why mess this up.
The people that have a trust fund for an income decided that this is a wrong way to do things. Look at what the oil and gas thing done for the economy of poor states.
Well for the most part these people never hit a lick in their life. They are living off people that invented the atomic bomb or something like that and are now telling us how to live. They want us to put up with their lifestyle and be mean to wage earners. While they go along at their own pace. Living off the wealth of their beneficiaries. Driving cars, flying in planes, using electricity and being very picky about what they want.
Over the last few years technology has came up with a way to get oil from a very difficult situation. We can get all the natural gas we could ever need. There is still plenty of coal. People that extract these resources get paid. They buy things. They support their own families. They are not on welfare.
These bulk products need to be transported to the ultimate locations were they can be put to use. Now the railroad workers have a job. Equipment that has been sitting idle is being used. People are working. Buying homes. Buying products.
Coal, gas and oil can all be used to provide the energy we need for the lifestyle we have came accustomed to. For everyone, not just the rich. Burning coal for electric power generation has never been cleaner. Coal can also be converted to gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. To power automobiles, ships, planes and all other gasoline devises.
Natural gas can be used to generate electricity, power internal combustion engines, heat homes, provide heat for cooking and heating water. And it burns clean. Another win win situation. At one time they were even talking about exporting the gas. At the same time there was a shortage of gas to heat homes. What is wrong with this picture? At this point in time there should not be any shortage of gas for home use. Period!
Then we have oil. After it is extracted it can be used to make fuel in the shortest and easiest fashion. Although not automatically. It does have to go to a refinery. Oil is used to make a lot of the plastics we use. And we use a lot of plastic.
All the above mentioned industries also create a ripple effect on the economies where they are. People that work in food, hospitality, service, health and other industries also benefit. Did I forget retail?
Everybody benefits from a good economy. If you are willing to put forth an effort and work. Be nice to people.
The other day I ran into someone who was criticizing the American Way. I told them if it is so bad how come so many people come from other places to be here? I had to add that if it is so bad the plane that brought you here will take you back to where you came from.

Can Our Economy Keep Up With The Pace Of The Dishing Out Of Money?

Look at the economy right now. It is supposed to be OK. It used to work on the 9-6-3-3 method. That meant that the banks opened at 9AM. They loaned you money at 6%, gave you 3% on savings and closed a 3PM. This was a nice system. This gave you a reasonable amount of loan interest and a nice return on saving.
Today you get almost nothing for savings. Although loan rates are as low as they have ever or will be. In the event you have good credit.
The government is paying out so much money now for entitlements. How can they do it? Well they can not. They have borrowed so much money. Mostly from China. Why would China lend us money? I do not know for sure but a lot of it has to do with shifting of manufacturing to China.
Now the China economy is peaking out. Are they going to want their money back right now? Do they own the entire United States? Who knows.
I do know that about half of the business we do at the store I work at is food stamps. That is scary. But true. As a nation we pay about half to sit home and do nothing. About ten percent makes good money and the other 40 percent works at a level of the people that sit at home.
This can not continue. The government is out of money. But what are we going to do?

First Time Playing Golf In Two Years

It really started out ugly. Have not hit a ball for two years. And it showed. First hole was a disaster. Second hole a mess. Third hole a 5 wood fairly straight. Good iron shot to green. Fourth hole is a dogleg. I used to just cut the dogleg and drive the green. Not today. But I was close enough to hit a pitching wedge to the green. I guess as with anything else you have to stay on top of it to be proficient.
I did not expect much. After not playing for over two years. And playing under duress before that. The last few times I played before that I played with dad. He was not in good shape and could barely get out of the cart. But I did it to appease him and let it go at that. He tried as best he could but was failing. Is this the way you are going to spend the last time with your parents? If they were any kind of good parents and you have a heart I feel that you should. They put up with you all their lives.
So as I played more I got a little better. At the end I was happy. Just to play. As the last two years I have spent in hospitals, doctors offices and rest homes. Time to turn the page and start doing my own thing again.
I do not mind working hard. A lot of people do. I call them slugs. They will do anything they can to do nothing. Or at least the easiest tasks.
So I went out and played golf again. I was a little scared. But pared the first hole. I guess I am getting it back.

We Are Not Living A Fast Life

I seen an advertisement on TV the other day about the fast and hard life that we are living. We in fact are living the easiest life humans have known. Long ago we had to grow, gather or hunt for our food. And of course prepare it.
With little exception most of us get food at a grocery store. Or eat out all the time. Very few of us grow and cook our own food.
Take shelter. Most own (I say own with a loan), rent, live with others or are provided housing through government programs. We did not build our housing. Our housing is a direct result of one of the above.
We also do not have to seek out fresh water. It is at our taps. We have a bathroom to perform hygiene. Water used to be a big thing for people to survive. Now we just get it out of own kitchen or bathroom  sick. Water that is just as good for the most part as water that we could buy in plastic bottles. Plastic bottle water got cool during the first Gulf War. Which has been over for a while now.
Clothing is another staple. In our junky economy most bottom feeders are provided with at least shirts. We do however have to buy our own shoes and pants. We are lucky to get this.
If you are not able to provide food for you self we have SNAP or  Food Stamps are they used to be called. You can load up for the month. If you do not use it up that is. But they are loaded up pretty good.
The ramifications of not giving out food stamps are large. The listless population would have to revert to crime. As they know nothing else. If I do not get it for free I will steal it. Not go to work.
