Could You Go Back To A Basic Cell Phone After Having A Smart Phone For A Couple Of Years?

I have had a smart phone for almost two years now. My contract is up soon and I am considering going back to basic phone. Going to my carrier's website and chatting with a host it appears that my old basic phone is still usable. I am paying almost $60 a month with a 20% discount now. I never go over 600 minutes. I do not text. I end up with 0% data usage at the end of the month.
I know everything is not what it is supposed to be when you get there but it appears that I can get a 700 minute and test deal for $25 a month using one of my old phones. Which i never had a problem with and only needed to charge about once a week.
Saving $35 a month does not sound like a lot but $35 here and there adds up. It is nice to have Internet access, weather, and all the other things that I do not use. So many of the things I do not use not or even used on my basic phone.
If my cable company offered an Internet only package I would probably drop the basic cable TV that I have since the channels i watch seem to keep showing the same stuff over and over and only watch about 5 out of the 70 or so channels received. Most everything I watch is on the over the air antennae. Which has several channels and I really watch too much TV anyway.
I think I am going to drop down to a basic phone. Could you?
