Earlier I wrote about cooking shows on PBS. I watch them all the time. And you should take a look too. They are really entertaining and educational too. It is a good way to learn things you would never thing of otherwise.
First of all you learn some diversity. As there are several different cooking styles along with different cultures. American, Asian, French, Italian, Irish, Mexican and Scandinavian to name a few. One thing is the fact that each of these nationalities naturally use products that were and are available to them in their given locations. The nice thing is that the majority of the ingredients are available at most local well stocked grocery stores.
So this gives you an opportunity to try several different recipes. As you have so many choices you can just pick out the ones that sound good to you. Also affordability as well. As many of the recipes do not cost as much as a value meal at your fast food place.
First look at your pantry. If you have nothing but boxed mac and cheese you will have to stock up. Again, do not think that you have to go out and buy a hundred dollars worth of stuff. But most likely you will need something. Flour, sugar, eggs, milk, salt, pepper, butter, onions, garlic and basic cookware.
You know you have the time to do this. Forget Facebook and the internet for a while. Although the internet is a great way to find recipes. As most of the shows have websites as well. PBS can also be streamed worldwide as well. Which is a good thing.
If you are getting tired of the same old meals PBS opens up a new world to you for getting out of that rut. Whether it is fast food, carry out, the same old frozen stuff you eat at home you will find that there are many good dinners you can cook at home on the cheap.
So you just have a cable or dish to receive television signals. Go out and buy an inexpensive antennae. Depending upon where you live the variety will amaze you. In reality if my internet was not tied to my TV I would be able to just cut the cable. But having basic cable does give you a few channels to watch.
