We all think we keep a clean house. But a objective observation from someone else may prove you wrong! We get comfortable with our surroundings. So little things do not appear. At least to us. But they may be the first thing that a visitor sees.
First of all my place is decorated in late 1970s frat house. Everything is functional, at least to me. I have a HO model railroad on the dinning room table. As if I had a dinning room anyway. There are at least two bicycles in the living room. Again as if I had one to begin with. A couch and chair that were going to be replaced by my apartment complex. Which I readily took to replace the ones I had that were destroyed by the meanest Ferrel cat that I have ever took on. This cat not only destroyed my furniture but killed a raccoon on my patio. Pretty tough. It was a Russian Blue.
I did however have the kitchen updated a few years ago. The kitchen cabinets are a nice white. Providing that I keep them clean. Between the cat and myself we have pretty much wrecked the new carpet that I got in 2009. It still beats the carpet I have in 2004. Which was from 1979. When the hurricanes came in I would just simply put the Harley Davidson in the living room. The time I did not the salt in the air from the storm rusted all the wheel spokes and corroded the aluminum.
Everything is rag tag too. I have an ancient stereo system that still kicks. A ratty TV. Old junk computer. But it works. You never know what you will see when you come to some one's home. I do not really care. As I never go to any one's home anyway. And I do not care if they come to mine.
So take a look around. Is your place a mess? Do you really care? I do somewhat. But it is not life or death. I still see dust. A few cob webs. Who cares. Dust on the furniture. Carpet need swept? I have found a good system to sweep carpet. Just use a simple corn broom. It does a good job of getting the nap up. Easy to get into tight spaces and does not require electricity. Then just use your vacuum cleaner once a week.
White vinegar and bleach will clean just about everything form the windows to the bathroom. A good dish soap like Dawn, Comet, Bar Keepers Friend will clean just about everything else.
We do not notice the little things that others do. Mostly because it is what you are used to seeing. So take a munute and look around.
