If you think about it boredom is a cause for a lot of spending and problems. In modern times we do not have to do a lot of things to survive and consequently end up with time on our hands. Most of us do not have to hunt game or forage plants to eat. Although a lot of folks have sort of that hunter and gather mentality. We do not have to seek some kind of shelter when bad weather or some sort of beast threatens us. Free and clean water is almost always available. Free food and shelter is also available to some.
But how many people rich and poor end up doing something stupid because they are bored. The harder you have to work, the less time you have to be bored. But these folks can be hard on themselves out of spite and they personal feeling of failure. So the smoke, drink, take drugs, do stupid things, over eat, drive too fast, take risks that are not necessary, act badly and do every other thing you can think of. I do not have any sympathy for myself or anyone else who does stupid things and are surprised with the outcome. Cause and effect. Go figure.
As any animal or plant we are driven. So we are sitting around and do not do what needs to be done. Seeking an easier path. More pleasure. Less pain. No one wants to do more than the least. We all want the best with the least amount of effort. we sometimes have to apply ourselves.
We all want to think we are doing the right thing. Trying to be normal. So we spend way too much money on being normal. This kind of this and that. So we try hard to fall into some kind of conformity that has been predesignated by someone who is trying to profit from us. A piece of the action on their part. Unfortunately
Theme parks, gambling, most forms of entertainment including TV, movies, etc and all other forms of entertainment were not started and maintained for your enjoyment specifically. But for profit. Festivals are nice. But they have a promoter that has a vested interest (read as profit) in them. Why else would they bother with it. Everyone's actions has a basis. Whether it is an attempt to be benevolent or to take something from someone.
