I recently read that Proctor and Gamble is going to cut one hundred products from their line. That sounds like a lot. I didn't even know they made a hundred products.
From what I have read Tide and Pampers are their highest profit items. If you look it up though they really make a lot of things. Gillette, Duracell, health and beauty items. Small appliances. Just about everything you can think of.
But with all this stuff there is a lot of redundancy. So they are trimming down a bit. Just walk through the store. How many choices are there? Way too many for me.
As the economy continues to be down. Although it is not supposed to down according to the news. It is. We have been living in a dream world for too long. The time is coming to rectify the situation.
A recent post about the PBS travel shows should come into play here. These other places do not seem to have much going on except tourism. Their old industries have waned. Whether from an exhaustion of natural resources or lack of profitability. When everyone runs out of money who will be able to be a tourist? Only the mega rich I suppose.
Proctor and Gamble's decision to cut back on products only makes sense. There are just too many specialty items out there that drives up the cost. We are going to see a trend after this move by a large corporation.
Look at automobiles. Years ago if you wanted a small cheap car you bought a Volkswagen. If you wanted a large luxury car you bought a Cadillac or Lincoln. Now virtually every manufacturer makes a economy and a luxury model. As yourself as a person you can't be everything to everyone.
When I go to Walmart I see less and less of their house brand Great Value. Everyone has a generic product these days. Who do you think makes them? The big brand names of course. These generics are cutting into the profit of the name brands that have made them famous.
