Nerd Things To Do Cooking Biking TV Computers Watches

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary" a nerd is an unstylish, unattractive or socially inept person." The English Oxford dictionary states, "A foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious."  Nerd probably superseded creep in use as a creep according to American Heritage Dictionary means " An obnoxious or insignificant person." I believe I can check all those boxes.
Nerds need things to do as does everyone else. However what it is most likely not going to be what a lot of folks would consider exciting or social. I do not think that going to a sports bar to watch an event on television. As they know that they would not fit in and if not harassed, ignored.  A cruise  ship vacation is not on a nerd radar either. As you cannot even escape the world of one beauty, interaction and style.
Electronics are most likely the savior to the modern nerd. Allowing one to be removed from reality and coarse people. As we remember being bullied by the jocks, cheerleader types and druggies in school. In the day we did things like join the Boy Scouts, make models, play with model trains, hike or bike ride by yourself or perhaps a nerd friend or two. So a couple of our friends would be TV and computers. With the TV being passive and the computer being active. On TV we seek out documentaries and other educational programs. Science fiction and classic movies. As with the exception of the stereo typed nerd on modern programs we are omitted. Smart phones give us some comfort too. Not being constantly texting someone about someone else, but to listen and watch something in our comfort zone. This doesn't make us all bad. Just nerds.
One of the older nerds I have developed in a lifetime of an appreciation of watches. I have always liked watches and been very conscience of time. As I tell my boss. I may be absent sometimes but never late. I have always been a clock watcher. For some reason the clock in first grade always sticks in my mind. It was an electric clock and I can see the red second hand moving about as I write this. I have a great deal of the watches that I have possessed  to this day. I have also been infatuated by their preciseness and form of a machine that separates us from the Animal Kingdom. Although nature has provided the animals with their own sense of time. I like to work on things. So Years ago I purchased an inexpensive watch repair kit. Which I have really enjoyed and use quite often. As a nerd a Casio F-91W will do everything that I need. After keeping and acquiring many watches over the years I have many. There is a feeling of accomplishment in taking something that isn't working going again. Having a watch for every occasion, in the event there was an occasion at all. See more about watches on the post before this one.
Another nerd thing to do is gardening. Nothing to complex or large. As most of us live in a small home. A few herbs that can be used in the kitchen are a good starter. You know, the kitchen. The place where the refrigerator, stove (what is that thing) and most importantly the microwave is.You do not have to live on hot pockets alone to be a nerd. Try cooking. Try to grow some tomatoes and peppers. Tomatoes are those things you take of the Whopper. A couple of bullet proof flowers are cool too.
Cooking should be something you could start doing. It really is not that difficult. Cooking can be done while you at home watching TV and playing video games. All the information you need to know about cooking is available on the Internet. See how easy it is to make the things that you buy out. You can quickly see that you can make just as good as if not better than the take out or frozen things you eat. Plus many times you have the leftovers to take to work or lunch. Win win. Plus you will be opened up to the world of cooking tools. Something else to be nerdy about. All you really need is a skillet, sauce pan and Dutch oven to start. As far as knives go a paring, chef and serrated will get you going. Do not buy a whole set of pans and knives. The above mentioned will get you going enough to see if it something you want to pursue. Do not forget dinnerware and silverware. They are reusable (washing) and will last a while. You will learn something and may learn to like it. If you do not you will not be out that much.
Bicycles may be something else you may like. It is not as if you have to be a racer. But they are very handy about getting around. You should not buy a new one. Try to find something at a thrift store or yard sale. The trick is to get something that fits. Sit on it and see hoe it feels. If you cannot find something there get a cheap Walmart bike. As many of us nerds rely on public transportation most buses have a place to put your bike on. Making to trip to your destination easy. Something else to tinker with. And useful too.
Nerds have a lot of things to do. This is part of survival. Do something for yourself and others. Be the cool nerd. Not following the herd as the rest.
